We live in a "post-scarcity" world, so in general the options are:

Income from fossilized (old) media (footage and media punditry)
Advertising (people's attention)
Sponsorship (trust)
Foundations (price is often bureaucracy)
Donations (eg Kickstarter)
Merchandising (eg Citizen Media Handbook)
Engaging in the scarcity world (eg training) which is off-line, no online

Advantage we have over corporations is we have a bottom-up structure, which is more sustainable.

Digital world has no sustainability without huge size (wikipedia etc)
